Two Up archiveTold in the gritty language of prison this is a powerful story of convicts trying to make the best of a bad situation; men who are often unable to keep up the impassive, blank facade of being able to 'do your bird'. Their humour is as black as their prison pallor is grey. Their anger and resentment only semi-controlled. Their emotions scratching away at their hearts and minds. A 'two up' is a cell for two prisoners. 255419 Holland served a 20-year sentence for armed robbery. Whilst in prison he won over twenty Koestler Awards for writing. Since his release in 1997 he has gained a degree, had one play produced at The Old Operating Theatre and three at The Union Theatre. He works in journalism, in education, with ex-offenders, with young people, and makes short films. Two Up has been written from his experiences in some of England's most notorious jails.
