William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy visited Germany in the winter of 1798/9. Recent research suggests that they weren't there just to study the language, as they claimed. Was Wordsworth in fact spying for the British government? And is there anything to connect these events with the latter animosity between Alexander Craig Gibson, the Cumberland poet, and Wordsworth, the establishment figure?
