Bernarda Alba archiveBernarda Alba is a taut, provocative musical about an emotionally and sexually repressed group of daughters rebelling against their smothering mother in 1930s rural Spain. Inspired by the drama and fire of Spanish flamenco and traditional folk songs and with an all-female cast, LaChiusa's take on Lorca's work is a seamless blend of music, drama and dance bursting with passion as the women's struggle against a repressive regime culminates in a shocking climax.
