New York. 1930s. As the Great Depression grips tightly to the American people, a taxi strike is debated. Awaiting the arrival of their elected chairman, Lefty, a series of vignettes show the lives of the popular; beaten down, angry and destitute, struggling just to get by, devastated by a shattered economy. Clifford Odet's masterpiece, set in 1930s New York has a timely message for Britain in 2011. Running time: 1hr approx.
