Revolution Square archiveIn December 2011, Russia saw the largest series of demonstrations and protests since the collapse of the Soviet Union 22 years ago. More than 100,000 people took to the streets in temperatures as low as -20C to protest against widespread fraud in recent parliamentary elections, and against the increasingly authoritarian government. On March 4, Russia will hold its next presidential elections, when Vladimir Putin will run for an unprecedented third term as President.
