Rough for Opera - The Open Cage/Pavane for an Invisible Princess/A Sourdough Bread Recipe archiveA scratch night for new opera hosted by Second Movement rough for opera brings together some of the most innovative young opera makers in the UK in an eclectic evening of musical test drives and dramatic experiments. The Open Cage - Music by Danyal Dhondy Libretto by Adam Donen and Adam Horovitz - Alone in his workshop, deep in the labyrinth which he built and in which he has been trapped for years, the great inventor Daedalus is putting the finishing touches to two giant pairs of wings... The Open Cage is a new one-act opera. Scored for two singers and an ensemble of acoustic and electronic instruments, the piece uses an array of visual media in its unique retelling of the Icarus myth. Pavane for an Invisible Princess - by Peter Longworth Pavane for an Invisible Princess is a street scene set during the turn of the Nineteenth Century in a bohemian quarter of a European city. Told through the gossip and speculation of the characters, the story questions the identity of a woman ? living in a house at one end of the street - whom nobody has actually seen. A Sourdough Bread Recipe - by William Marsey Written post-The-Great-British-Bake-Off, this opera is about the emotional journey of making bread. The text is a recipe for sourdough, which is a bread leavened with naturally occurring lactobacilli and yeasts.
