The critically acclaimed Ballet Black strive to honour the traditions of classical ballet while breaking new ground with cutting-edge choreography. Now an essential part of the classical ballet landscape, the company is the perfect showcase for dancers of black and Asian descent, providing them with a platform on which to perform and practise their craft. Unsurprisingly, Ballet Black attracts dancers, choreographers and designers from around the world. It has been an incredible 10 years since the reopening of Theatre Royal Winchester and to celebrate this momentous occasion, we invite you to a very special Gala evening performance by Ballet Black, Cassa Pancho's award-winning company of black and Asian ballet dancers. There will be a special toast given before the performance delivered by the new CEO, Mark Courtice, for which audiences will be given complimentary bubbly or wine, to raise their glasses to the continued success of Winchester s premier venue for live performance. Ballet Black also celebrates its 10th year and has garnered huge success and a cult following, working with artists such as Richard Alston, Liam Scarlett and Christopher Hampson, to Shobana Jeyasingh, Will Tuckett and many more. For this TRW Gala evening, the company will present entirely new work from a range of dynamic choreographers with a mixed bill of highlights from the past decade, including the critically acclaimed Da Gamba by the Welsh-Nigerian choreographer Henri Oguike, Shift by former New York City Ballet dancer, Antonia Franceschi, and the company's first narrative ballet, Orpheus created by Will Tuckett.
