Ivor Dembina is a stand-up comedian based in London UK. He is best known for his live solo shows: ?Stand-Up Jewish Comedy (1994) an hour of stand-up about Jewish life in the UK, SadoJudaism (2000) a comic look at the subjects of fetishism and prostitution through Jewish eyes, and his latest and most important offering ?This is Not a Subject for Comedy'.
This is Not a Subject for Comedy is described by Ivor Dembina as a ‘story with jokes’. The narrative uses humour to tell how a young Jewish man from Hendon, north London brought up to love Israel discovers his support for the Jewish State challenged by a visit to the Occupied Territories. From London to the West Bank we hear him joke against the Occupation, and simultaneously use his Jewish wit to deal with hostility from his own Jewish community. Although the show is barely an hour long it has been five years in the making. It was first performed in 2004 at a small theatre in Washington DC and is now widely travelled including showings in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as well as in Ramallah and Bethlehem on the West Bank.
