This thought provoking full length work portrays universal themes that are inherent in all primates through a revealing journey of submission, dominance, repression and revelation. Humanimalia challenges our perceptions of who’s watching who in performance, and exposes us to the intrinsic evolutionary complicity between humans and animals. With a sublime cast of international dancers Janis Claxton Dance present this poignant work, poetically revealing innate qualities and behaviours of the human animal in an unforgettable and moving performance. Humanimalia is inspired by Claxton’s ongoing primate research and the company’s critically acclaimed work Enclosure 44 - Humans which was performed in an animal enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo, received a Herald Angel Award and was shortlisted for a Total Theatre Award.
