Romeo and Juliet archiveThe story of frustrated young (illegally young in modern terms) love and death and the vendetta between two families in a tight-knit Italian community. One of Shakespeare's most popular and enduring dramas it has also been re-done as film, ballet, musical (most notably "West Side Story") and ice spectacular! In a contemporary setting, Fred re-tells one of the greatest love stories for the Internet generation, and reveals a play of extremes. Love and violence. Tragedy and comedy. Extreme euphoria and utter despair. The production moves quickly, using an edited text that includes all the much loved scenes of a play that appeals to all generations. It explores being young in the twenty-first century. What does it mean to be young and in love today? What are the expectations of, and pressures on young people? Romeo and Juliet is performed by six actors across 90 minutes and is suitable for ages 14+, especially those studing the play at GCSE level.
