Masks archiveDrugs, mystery and motherhood are woven together in a sassy black comedy. Masks sees five women locked in the Museum of Childhood overnight. As darkness falls, Lee is waiting for the chance to find drugs which have been smuggled into the country in Dutch costume dolls. Her mother Maureen is also hiding, hoping to dissuade her daughter from plunging further into crime. Unbeknown to them, Nicola has hidden herself near the birthing stools and is waiting to carry out a fertility ritual in a bid to have a baby. She is accompanied by dizzy but desperate Kate, whose beauty is waning and whose attempts at family life have been a failure. The themes of magic, belonging and motherhood are brought together by Remi, an African woman who sees an African fertility doll in the Museum. The doll triggers a flood of memories of her own mysterious birth and family disintegration. Spurred on by the different character's aims - drugs, mystery and motherhood - the play reaches a tense and hilarious climax.
