Variety is the name of the game and if you haven't seen this band before, you'll be leaving the theatre with a smile on your face. Once considered a novelty, the modest ukulele is enjoying a surge in popularity. This small, four-stringed, two hundred year old instrument is brought to life by Essex based ukulele band D’Ukes who sing and play your favourite songs in their own exciting way. Everything from Johnny Cash, the Beach Boys and Beatles to Amy Winehouse, Paolo Nutini and Mumford And Sons with many others along the way such as Radiohead, Eva Cassidy and even Beethoven! Formed in 2009, D’Ukes are a diverse group of musicians including singers, bass and percussion who have an enthusiasm for playing the ukulele. Following a successful first year playing festivals, theatres and other venues including performances on BBC Essex and BBC Cambridge, D’Ukes make their first visit to The King's Head Theatre. A performance by D’Ukes is fun, original and a little different to the usual entertainment and guaranteed to get you smiling! AND if you play ukulele (even as a beginner) bring it along as there will be an opportunity to strum along with D'Ukes during the second half of their performance D'ukes Live website.
