Scam archiveThis is the story surrounding one of the greatest con-tricks of the 20th Century and it's perpetrator, Oscar Hartzell. An Iowa farm boy, Oscar traipsed through mid-west America making a pitch that was utterly implausible. He claimed to have seized control of the estate of Sir Francis Drake, now worth billions. Absurd? Maybe. But it happened. Between 1918 and 1932, over 70,000 people actually invested, many to the point of bankruptcy. Oscar's ruthless and merciless scheme caused misery to countless people, wrecking lives and destroying whole families. Scam is about one such family and their fight to untangle the destructive forces of greed and gullibility, loyalty and recklessness; passion and fidelity. Do they dare expose Oscar and in doing so destroy a dream they can't afford to stop believing in...
