The rising stars of The Royal Opera's Jette Parker Young Artists programme present Xavier Montsalvatge's delightful El gato con botas. Based on Charles Perrault's well-known fairytale, the opera follows the adventures of a wily cat who decides to transform the fortunes of his impoverished master. It is performed alongside Berio's Folk Songs. The production is a highlight of Meet the Young Artists Week at the Royal Opera House, which provides a chance to see the future faces of opera in the intimate settings of the Linbury Studio Theatre. The week's activities also include a diverse programme of free recitals and a chance to meet the Artists in person. Running time: approx. 1hr 25mins (with one interval). Sung in German and Russian
