The Forest archiveAn isolated house in the forest. There is a knock at the door. Wainwright awakens from a drunken nightmare and answers the door. He is shocked to see his childhood friend, McCaffery, who has escaped from prison. Later that same night, there is a second knock at the door. It's Wainwright's wife, Marion, from whom he has recently separated. It's going to be a long night. Emotions are running out of control as they are forced to relive events in the forest 15 years ago, when their young lives changed forever. McCaffery has spent the last 15 years in prison, on a Life Sentence for the murder of Marion's boyfriend, after an incident involving both McCaffery and Wainwright. Wainwright has since become an expert Criminologist. He finds himself on a prison Parole Board deciding whether it is safe to release McCaffery back into the community. When McCaffery's parole is refused, he has only one question on his mind: which way did Wainwright vote? For or against his release? A powerful new play by Mansfield Palace Theatre playwright-in-residence Kevin Fegan, exploring how we are all caught up in the dirty business of crime and punishment. Kevin draws on his extraordinary experiences of working as a writer in several British prisons. Running time 1 hour 50 minutes. Suitable for ages 16+
