Details
Jo is a descendant of the Wiradjuri people of Western NSW in Australia. She is the founder and director of the Wagana Aboriginal Dancers and has been teaching and performing for over 25 years. Jo says: Aboriginal dance is derived and inspired by everything around us. The earth, the sky, the animals and birds, stories passed down from generation to generation for tens of thousands of years. The movement that comes when I dance feels like an imprint. It's like following a map that I unconsciously know. Imagine being a hunter or being hunted; how do you move without being seen, without being heard? Participants will warm up to the rhythm of the clap sticks, make tracks across the floor and explore contemporary Aboriginal dance.
