Critically acclaimed jazz pianist, Will Butterworth, has written a suite of music inspired by Oscar Wilde's famous children's story The Nightingale and the Rose. The suite employs beautiful melodies and rich harmony to retell Wilde's heartbreaking story of love and sacrifice, and comes to a dramatic crescendo when the final song of the Nightingale is performed. For this special concert, the quartet will be joined by legendary writer, broadcaster, and raconteur Gyles Brandreth. Brandreth will give a reading of the story, while accompanied by the quartet - the music and words combine to recreate Wilde's magical, luminescent world. Brandreth is one of the foremost authorities on Wilde; he is the president of the Oscar Wilde society, and has written six works of historical fiction called The Oscar Wilde Murder Mysteries. He is the perfect person to communicate Wilde's genius, and in many ways continues the Wilde tradition with his extraordinary command of language and quick-fire wit.
