Another young musician graces the Malvern platform this season, a terrific winner who astounded the judges with the mastery of her instrument. Jinah Shim presents the piano concerto by Schumann, in which every lover of classical music will enjoy the poetry this Romantic work has to offer. Opening the concert, Copland's tremendously optimistic works refresh the spirit exploring vivid musical landscapes. Closing the concert with an equally positive musical mood, Shostokovich's sixth symphony is - in his words - 'music of a contemplative and lyrical order ... conveying the moods of spring, joy, youth.'
