Koleso - Beating of the Russian Heart archiveSt Petersburg based Koleso have been entertaining Russian audiences for many years with their unique interpretation of Russian folk music, song and dance. Under the guidance of the inspiring Elena Maslova, this young and exciting group captivate any audience with their beautiful, lively folk songs, their jokes and their funny games, which include dragging men on stage to join them in a saucy dance! One moment they will touch your heart with a poignant ballad; the next they will make you laugh and stamp your feet with their infectious gaiety. Beating of the Russian Heart will include three songs from the musical Anya by John Farndon which Koleso recorded in St Petersburg last year. Anya was also seen in a workshop at the Donmar, London in December 2006. Anya is based on a true story of a love affair set partly in Stalinist Russia and partly in the U.S. The Koleso group is seven Russian girl singers and dancers with violin and accordion.
