Outhouse Ruhabi archiveOuthouse Ruhabi is an exciting new ensemble that mixes the sounds of contemporary jazz with the tribal West African groove of the Sabar drum. Formed in 2007 in The Gambia, Ruhabi is the result of a collaborative project between London Jazz Quartet of the moment Outhouse and five talented traditional West African Wolof drummers. The brainchild of Dave Smith, the drummer for Outhouse and recipient of both the Jerwood Jazz Generation and BBC Fame Academy awards, this project is the culmination of years spent studying West African rhythms. The group has previously performed together at the ICA and the prestigious Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
