Details

Formerly East of England Orchestra. Two little-known works by two well-known composers. Prize-winning Russian-born violinist Ilya Gringolts is the soloist in one of Schumann’s very last compositions. Neglected after his death, it has recently been receiving more attention. Brahms’s Serenade No 1 is his very first work for orchestra, based on an earlier version for an ensemble of just nine instruments. Its youthful charm and exuberance may surprise those who think of Brahms as always heavy and serious. One of Viva’s newly-commissioned Orchestral Shorts opens the concert.
