Formerly East of England Orchestra. Principal Conductor Andre de Ridder and sinfonia ViVA return to Chelmsford with a sparkling selection of classics performed by an orchestra of nearly 50 players. The concert opens with Schumann's Symphony in G minor. This is followed by Stravinsky's surprisingly lyrical Pulcinella Suite. Taken from the ballet he wrote for Diaghilev this is an early example of neoclassicism from Stravinsky. Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, depicts the composer's love for and appreciation of the landscape and the forces of nature. We are taken from the serenity of a gently depicted country scene to the unleashing of a full-blown storm before a resolution in the form of the thanksgiving song of shepherds. A truly timeless piece.
