This programme draws on the wealth of musical talent which flowered in the North-East of England in the second half of the eighteenth century, inspired by Charles Avison of Newcastle. His concertos are an important element in the programme, which also include works by his pupil, William Shield, John Garth and the first modern performance of Matthias Hawdon's harpsichord concerto.
