Gilbert and George - exploiting ‘working class’ young men pictured naked for the rich gay male gaze? Or revitalising art? Andy Warhol - cynical manipulator of drug dependent and sexualized bodies for money? Or an artist who introduced a new way of seeing? Francis Bacon - a sadomasochist yearning for the violent death of himself or his gangster lover? Or genuinely torn between art and love?
