Obverse is a complex, detailed and choreographically challenging new trio that tests the remarkable virtuosity of its dancers to visibly transform their state of being, from moment to moment, in both body and thinking. Obverse is a compelling response to the idea that meaning in dance is generated by how dance is structured. It tackles the curious occurrence that when distinct, apparent and lively composition is at play, somehow, on some level, it makes sense. Dispensing with any aspiration towards telling a story or representing an idea, Obverse pursues formalism in choreography to conversely liberate the poetics and immediacy of dance.
