A girl is imprisoned by a malicious, greedy king who believes that she can spin straw into gold. If she doesn't she dies. Of course she can't, but there's a strange little man who appears and who can. His challenge to her is to guess his name. An adaptation of the classic Grimm's fairytale. Using the Banraku style of puppetry, this ancient Japanese art form combines the full movement of marionettes with the positive action of rod puppets. The uncanny result is hull human movement but with half life-size characters.
