A mythical tale of a village near Liverpool involving Emilia, the daughter of the Claudio. Seduction, bereavement, unrequited love... set in the 1820s. Sung in Italian with 'Donizetti' introducing the story in English. This will be the first fully staged production of the title in the city ever. Some may remember Fritz Spiegl's concert version in 1957 as part of the festivities for the 750th anniversary of the granting of a charter to the city of Liverpool. This production is offered in support of Liverpool's bid for the Capital of Culture status 2008... and promises spectacular costumes, fantastic music with a full orchestra and truly superb singing.
