Working with international Commedia dell'arte artist Antonio Venturino, our youth theatre group will present their own version of the centuries-old masked theatrical technique. The piece will be performed in a traditional ensemble style, using improvisation to extend the comedy of the show. In two intensive weeks working with Antonio, the group have learnt about the sight gags, jokes and stage buffoonery devised by the Italian troupes in the seventeenth century. The group will re-create commedia scenarios, and the resulting performance promises to be full of knockabout humour, and vintage themes such as the triumphs of love and greed.
