A Yorkshire Tragedy archiveThis Jacobean domestic tragedy is part of the Shakespeare Apocrypha. It tells the true story of Walter Calverley who murdered his two eldest sons and attempted to murder his wife and younger song on April 23rd 1605. Not suitable for children. The tragic true tale of Walter Calverley, a young husband and father, who in the spring of 1605 was driven to the maniacal murder of his family fueled by drink, debts and an empty marriage. (First performed at the Globe Theatre in the early 17th century and only a handful of times since, the plays authorship is as shrouded in mystery as it's subject matter - it has been attributed to both Shakespeare and Thomas Middleton amongst others.)
