Bottom Dog archiveBottom Dog - tells the tale of a group of Irish emigrants in NW London, whose lives are intertwined by their involvement in the construction industry (aka 'The Lump'). The Lump has always had it's fair share of characters and chancers-and more than it's fair share of accidents. The play casts a black humorous eye on proceedings as we follow the characters stories over a period of nearly twenty years from the early 1970's to 1990. Bannaher, is the big man, the subby, to whom Larry and Terry turn to occasionally-when their other, shadier means of earning a few bob are temporarily suspended...Then Larry comes up with a plan involving the races at Park Royal greyhound track which will make them a fortune...Dougie, meantime, is spending a few weeks underground (in a coffin) in support of Bannaher's favourite charity...Bernie is wondering if her upcoming marriage to Dougie is such a good idea after all...Terry, who is just out of prison, can't accept that his relationship with Tessa is over...And Father Maguire is agonising over his future as a priest. Then an accident at work, which sees Johnjo buried alive, has a big effect on their lives.
