Plagued by an infectious collection of characters with some unorthodox curative devices, a hapless patient enters a realm of unearthly hospital routines in a display of rude health and angelic hallucinations. A delirious soundscape of music and song, together with an elaborate collection of mechanical devices and theatrical scenarios, form the basis of a journey through an unfathomable system that mirrors the uncertainty of illness. In Cure, different areas of the theatre are transformed into environments that are experienced in different ways. The audience is guided through a labyrinth of cubicles and corridors, each part of which culminates in a theatrical scene with the patient at the centre. A site-specific work made especially for the atmospheric, subterranean Viaduct Theatre. Utilising the lateral creative inventiveness that has characterised their work and made IOU one of Europe's most prolific, extraordinary and pioneering theatre companies, this large scale event marks the beginning of a three-year programme on onnovative new work.
