Bookseller Alec Firth is having an affair with assistant Liz and has craftily organised things so he can go to Spain with her without arousing the suspicions of his wife. What could go wring? Plenty! Arriving on his doorstep, in quick succession, are his Grandma Giles of a mother (come to stay for the duration), his son with a broken ankle, a pregnant daughter and an oversized puppy.
