Details
A brilliant young writer pens a novel with the Passion at its core. A cynical, blistering campaign is launched against him and he seeks sanctuary in a lunatic asylum. Easter, 1940. The Devil, as 'Professor Woland', visits Moscow. His arrival sparks several peculiar events, including two decapitations, a disappearance and an unexpectedly bloody theatre show. A population oppressed by Soviet bureaucracy and the KGB try desperately to track Woland down. Meanwhile, a writer ('the Master') has vanished, abandoning his lover Margarita, after his novel about Pontius Pilate was denounced as un-Communist. Woland's visit offers Margarita the chance to find the rescue the Master. In this Easter week anything is possible: even Pilate, whose story acts as a foil, may be forgiven after 2000 years.
