Tour synopsis, cast & creatives

People Show 128
This May, in the lead up to their 50th Anniversary year, People Show explore the impact of ritual on contemporary ideas of community in a brand new site-?-specific performance. St Mary's is currently pursuing a cultural regeneration aiming to restore the space and provide opportunities for cultural development and expression within the community. People Show have been invited to create a show within the space before phase two of the restoration commences this summer. People Show's ethos of inclusion makes them the perfect facilitator to encourage collaboration and community participation, and this cross-?- generational performance (featuring participants from the ages of 20-?-77) will reach a new audience on a new platform, engaging with them on a personal level within their own community. Rituals are a part of our everyday lives, be it a morning routine, a regular event, weekly meetings, family meals or bigger events such as weddings and birthdays. These rituals, both secular and religious, help to shape our identity within a community. Keeping with People Show tradition, The Crypt Project will be a diverse show, featuring many performance styles and mediums. In partnership with the Paddington Development Trust (PDT), we will be working in collaboration with emerging artists from the University of Roehampton, ALRA (Academy of Live and Recorded Arts), local community groups, artist Rob Kennedy and experimental musician Phil Minton who will be working with local residents to create a feral choir that will be incorporated into the performance. Phil Minton has taken his feral choir concept all over the world and encourages participants to take a vocal leap and find new vocal possibilities through a series of workshops that conclude with public performances.
Approximate runtime 1 hour.
