Details
This is a story of integrity, tragedy and love. Emmaline Powell (Eline) was born a country girl in a small white-washed cottage. When her father died, she married Joe Harries, a man much older than herself, and one of the fishermen of Oystermouth. The wives of the oyster catchers were study, stoic women, used to helping their husbands with the catch. They disliked this frail outsider, especially Nina Parks as she had wanted Joe for herself. Eline became increasingly unhappy and isolated; she was in a bad marriage and had no friends..until she met Will Davies. Will opens new worlds to Eline, worlds of achievement, unfolding a talent she did not know she had; he teaches her how to love. As tragedy and feuding engulf the village Eline, alone, maintains her integrity, shows her ability to work and looks to her hopes for the future. A Millennium Commissiion Lottery Project.
