UKTW - 25 years online
CORONAVIRUS: All UK venues closed on 16th March 2020, work is underway to re-open safely. Some venues are showing on-line productions or outside productions - even a few covid safe internal ones and a number of tours and shows have been rescheduled for later in 2020 and throughout 2021. We are updating our listings as much as possible to reflect the changes as they are reported.

The Playboy of the Western World archiveSet in a small village on the west coast of County Mayo, The Playboy of the Western World tells the story of lonely dreamer Christy Mahon who takes refuge in Michael Flaherty’s pub, claiming that he has killed his oppressive father. Christy beguiles the locals with his tall and dramatic tale of bravery in the face of danger and becomes an instant hero. He both charms the village women including Widow Quinn and captures the heart of the landlord’s fiery daughter Pegeen . However, when his tale turns out to be less straightforward than they first thought, the simmering violence of the villagers comes to light. The Playboy of the Western World was first performed in January 1907 at Dublin's Abbey Theatre.
Performers Patrick Moy, Lalor Roddy, Niall Cusack, Orla Fitzgerald, Brid Ni Neachtain, Will Irvine, Alan McKee, Sean Sloan, Susan Davey, Mary McGurk, Hannah Coyle.
Author John Millington Synge. Producer Lyric Belfast. Director Conall Morrison.
