Celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in a night of debate, performance and film chaired by human rights lawyer and freedom of speech champion Helena Kennedy QC. The programme includes short films and performances by film-maker Rex Bloomstein, Pants to Poverty and The Refugee Council. Bloomstein introduces an extract from his film An Independent Mind, exploring the right to freedom of expression, and the Pants to Poverty movement showcase their new high impact short film on human rights violations, More Than Pretty Knickers. Helena Kennedy chairs a discussion on freedom of speech, with a panel including playwright Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti whose works Behzti (Dishonour) and Behsharam (Shameless) have attracted widespread acclaim as well as controversy and censorship, and international labour rights activist and academic Khorshed Aslam, Director of the Alternative Movement for Resources and Freedom. The evening also includes specially commissioned performances and installations in The Front Room.
