Through a series of chance circumstances a servant girl is accused of murder and her life becomes intertwined with that of a powerful London judge. He is a man of strong emotions and fierce allegiances. But all this is put to the test when he comes to hear the girls' case and finds himself torn between justice and expediency. Her life hangs in the balance: he holds the scales. This play tells the true story of a Welsh servant girl and her love for the son of a highly successful and wealthy English merchant.
