Details
Abandoned America documents the abandoned farms, homesteads, school and communities in the former North Western Desert, which covers parts of Montana, Nebraska and North and South Dakota. As photographers Tony and Eva were initially drawn to the old abandoned cars which littered the fields and farmsteads and then to the buildings and structures which frequently still contained evidence of the former occupants: furniture, clothes, toys, books and financial accounts provide fragments of communities and individuals that had disappeared. The photographs aim not only to capture a sense of abandonment and pathos, but also depict the faded beauty inherent in many of the interiors. The exhibition provides the opportunity to reflect on the reality behind the brash presentation of the American dream.
