James Esnor by Luc Tuymans (Royal Academy of Arts) - T0105751367

Intrigue. The theatrical, the satirical and the macabre come together in arresting fashion in the art of James Ensor. Curated by Luc Tuymans, this exhibition will present a truly original body of work, seen through the eyes of one of today's leading painters. Despite spending his whole professional life in the Belgian seaside town of Ostend, James Ensor was very successful in his lifetime and exerted considerable influence on the development of Expressionism. An innovator and an outsider, he rebelled against the conservative art teachings of the late 19th century academy in Brussels, drawn instead to the avant-garde salons where his radical creative vision could thrive. .

Giovanni Battista Moroni - T858773914

A contemporary of Titian, and one of the most important painters of the Northern Italian Renaissance, Moroni is widely regarded as one of the greatest portraitists of all time. His genius lay in his ability to capture both the exact likeness, character and inner life of his sitters with a rare penetrating insight. Depicting members of the society in which he lived, his portraits convey a humanity, particularly in his portrayal of the regular people of Bergamo of his day, and are remarkable for their vitality, directness and immediacy. The exhibition will present Moroni not only as a distinctive portraitist but also in his lesser-known role as a religious painter.

Leonardo da Vinci Anatomist - T01492979107

This exhibition is the largest ever of Leonardo da Vinci's studies of the human body. Leonardo has long been recognised as one of the great artists of the Renaissance, but he was also a pioneer in the understanding of human anatomy. He intended to publish his ground-breaking work in a treatise on anatomy, and had he done so his discoveries would have transformed European knowledge of the subject. But on Leonardo?s death in 1519 the drawings remained a mass of undigested material among his private papers and their significance was effectively lost to the world for almost 400 years. Today they are among the Royal Collection's greatest treasures.

Van Dyck - T0408862343

Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641) was the greatest painter in seventeenth-century Britain. Intensely ambitious and hugely productive, he re-invented portrait-painting in Britain, retaining his pre-eminence until his premature death at the age of 42. Working in a period of intense political ferment during the run-up to the British Civil War, van Dyck portrayed many of the leading characters of the period. His iconic portraits of King Charles I have shaped our view of the Stuart monarchy, while the compositions he used influenced many future generations of British painters.
