La Vestale

La VestaleT1628786789
La Vestale balances a very human love story with the grandeur of the state, encompassing thrilling arias and duets, great set-pieces of massed chorus, and vivid orchestration. Julia is a temple virgin, torn between her religious duty and her love for the military hero Licinius. When she allows the temple's sacred flame to go out she is condemned to death, but a sign from the gods re-establishes her honour and love is triumphant.
