All an Act is the new one-act play by the award-winning Sean Michael Welch about two friends who grew up together and narrowly escaped their troubled childhoods by taking off to clown school (and eventually the travelling circus) where they became Merkin and Petunia. But after one night of sexual indiscretion, their lifelong friendship is left hanging by a thread, a situation only made worse by his alcoholism and her reliance on a daily buffet of psycho-narcotics. The tension of their subsequent three-week silence culminates in the backstage world of the circus, as Merkin and Petunia prepare for another round of pies to the face, juggling clubs, and tricycle gags
