Camino Real archiveDescribed by some critics as Williams' most challenging and ambitious work, Camino Real depicts Don Quixote's dream of the adventures of historical and mythical figures trying to escape from Camino Real - a town on the edge of civilization where characters land when they have relinquished their hopes. Into this world comes Kilroy, an American boxer, who is down but not out. While the town works to absorb Kilroy's hopelessness, he fights to stay alive among characters who struggle to distinguish imagination from reality.

Written in 1952, Camino Real was Tennessee Williams’ first poetic ‘dreamplay’, a direct artistic response to his more realistic works for theatre. In this new adaptation, created with students from the University of Glamorgan, choreographer and theatre director Sean Tuan John deconstructs the boundaries between naturalistic acting and caricature, exploring the separation between actor and performer, self and character.
