Not merely servants and messengers, as it happens, for there are some fascinating character parts loitering behind the juvenile leads. Graham Billing has played a number of them - in operas by composers as varied as Smetana, Tchaikovsky and Puccini - and is more than happy to reminisce about his experiences.
