The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace

The Armed Man - A Mass for PeaceT0610936027
The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace was a special Millennium commission from the Royal Armouries in Leeds and is the latest in a six centuries old tradition of 'Armed Man' masses, which take the 15th century French song L'Homme Arme as their starting point. Large-scale in both scope and size, The Armed Man is a profoundly moving yet very accessible work, which uses the most traditional of musical forms to explore an all too contemporary subject: the search for peace in a hostile world.

Production details

A chorus of 600 young voices marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. This Sing UK project will bring together young people from the UK, France, Belgium and Germany; the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Malcolm Goldring; and four international soloists in a landmark performance of Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man. This performance will be the first of a number of Sing UK events between 2014 and 2018 marking the important centenary years of the First World War.
