Noel Coward's middle-class, 1930s set 'Fumed Oak' finds amiable, hard-working Henry Gow passing his days surrounded by nagging wife Doris, whining daughter Elsie and complaining mother-in-law Mrs Rockett. But events take a darker turn when Henry comes home with a couple of drinks under his belt and a new courage...! Sue Townsend's 'Womberang' chooses a gynaecology clinic waiting room as its setting, where an assortment of patients awaiting afternoon appointments are amused by the arrival of Rita Onions. Her verve and energy, combined with a complete lack of respect for authority, gradually spreads an infectious, joyous anarchy throughout the patients as she demolishes officious hospital staff and generally sorts out everyone's personal problems. Alan Bennett's office-based 'Green Forms' follows the chit-chat of Doris and Doreen, comfortably installed in an obscure department of a large organisation. On a normal day they keep busy by flirting with nice Mr Tidmarsh in Appointments or pursuing their feud over a plug with Mr Cunliffe in Personnel. This is not a normal day. Someone has an eye on them and a shadow is falling across their tranquil lives.
