Details
Feuersnot (Fire-Famine) is Strauss's second opera, a substantial one-act piece first performed in Dresden in 1901. Strauss uses an old Flemish legend about a wizard with power over fire to take a satirical revenge on the conservatism of his native Munich, the city which had rejected his first opera.
