This event is part of a new series of talks opening a space for debate about why dance matters today and how it relates to an expanding creative field. New names in dance and performance invite leading creative voices to join them in conversation. For the first two events, artist Gillie Kleiman and choreographer and performer Matthias Sperling each curate one talk with an artist they admire. Gillie Kleiman (a dance artist who likes to talk) has invited Keith Hennessy (another dance artist who likes to talk) to share the space in the Lilian Baylis Studio. To talk. They have talked about what they could talk about. Some topics might include economies of working, (fake) shamanism, collaboration, improvisation, pedagogy, community, activism, and hijacking the mainstream. They'll talk about what is happening that week in the world, and how it relates to their practices. They'll also show excerpts and images of their works and those of other people they find interesting, listen to music or read out quotes, and work out ways that they might not be the only people talking. They've agreed to wear their most glamorous outfits - and, if you're lucky, there might even be a mid-talk costume change.
