Critically acclaimed for its sumptuous sound, the Isis Ensemble makes its Southbank Centre debut with a programme of Russian music for string orchestra. Premiered in 2009, Jacques Cohen's dazzling string arrangement of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition was described by The Strad magazine as 'a virtuoso piece of work, full of invention and ingenuity'. Formed in 2005 from high-profile chamber musicians and leading orchestral players, the Isis Ensemble is joined by internationally renowned saxophonist Sarah Markham for the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto. The evening opens with Tchaikovsky's ever-popular Serenade.
