The Daughter Abroad archiveThe daughter arrives home. Life has moved on, and why shouldn't it when she's only back to flirt with England? The mother fades into view. She is furious. She chases the bin men down the road with a fistful of the rubbish they have left behind. Packed with humour, this beguiling and tender play investigates motherhood and the forms it takes in a small exiled family unit. The mother arrived in England, heavily pregnant. She was on the run, but now she is safe. The daughter, once grown up leaves England for work, for freedom, for adventure. When she comes home to her mum, the push and pull between mother and daughter ensues. There is much unresolved and unspoken between these displaced women. The daughter has a decision to face and does not want to do so alone. Anna Crace and Tassa Deparis team up once again to present a brand new play. This is their second outing together after their theatre adventures in Berlin. This time they come with support from Scene Gym, advocates for new writing, whose aim is to bring actors, directors and writers together to develop and explore exciting new ideas from emerging artists.
